The CWU Women's Advisory Committee (WAC) was established to advise
the NEC and the institutional committees on all matters relating to our women members. The Committee meets four times per
year and discusses a wide range of issues. The WAC has promoted special training for women within the Union and has been involved
in the establishment of the Regional Women's Committees.
The WAC now has a direct link to all the Regional Women's
Committees, which have been established and is seeking, through them, to increase the number of women active in the Union.
The WAC is also responsible for progressing matters from the CWU Women's Conference and has campaigned on issues such as domestic
violence, which the Committees see as an important issue for Trade Unions. The WAC links us with other women internationally
through regular reports from the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions and from our own International UNI.
The
WAC aims to improve the amount and quality of women's participation in the CWU, to ensure that an agenda relevant to women
is promoted in all National negotiations and to link up with other organisations working on behalf of women.
