POL PAY AGREEMENT

No:1037/07

Ref:  301

Date: 27 November 07

TO: ALL BRANCHES WITH POSTAL MEMBERS

Dear Colleague

POL: Admin Members Pay Agreement

I am pleased to inform you that the Postal Executive have unanimously endorsed the pay agreement for our members working in POL Admin.  A copy of the formal pay offer letter is attached.

The pay agreement is in keeping with the Royal Mail and POL Supply Chain agreements in that it is a 2 year deal with the next review date being 1st April 2009. The agreement includes the following key features.

  • Consolidated pensionable pay increases from 1st October 2007 for all grades

  • Introduction of a Shorter Working Week from 1st April 2008 for full time members in the provinces, providing a real increase in pay of 2.86% for part time members and, by virtue of the improved hourly pay rate, enhancements to overtime rates.

  • London Weighting parity with Royal Mail from 1st January 2008 and for future years.

  • In line with our Crown Office members, Saturday Premium will continue to be paid until 31st March 2009 followed by a buy out with a compensation payment of 3.5 years x the actual Saturday Premium earnings for 2008/09.

The pay agreement includes consolidated increases for all grades as follows:

Shorter Working Week - Provinces

A 1 hour reduction in the working week, from 36 hours net to 35 hours net, for our provincial members from 1st April 2008 (harmonisation with London) leading to an increase in the hourly pay rate. This, in turn, provides a real increase in pensionable pay for part timers of 2.86%. The increased hourly pay rate also has a positive impact on overtime rates.

London Weighting

London Weighting will be increased to achieve parity with Royal Mail grades from 1st January 2008.  This will be maintained going forward with a further increase of 1.5% in April 2008 in line with the Royal Mail agreement.

Saturday Premium

Saturday Premium will cease on 1st April 2009 when a lump sum of 3.5 x years actual Saturday Premium (based on 2008/9 rates) compensation buy out will be made as in Crown Offices.

Saturday Premium will be reckonable for 6 weeks of paid holiday in 2008/09; an increase from the current 4 weeks.

Membership ballot timetable

The agreement will be subject to a membership ballot details of which are as follows

  • Ballot papers despatched - Wednesday 28th November

  • Ballot closes - Wednesday 12th December

The above timetable allows arrears to be paid in December salaries prior to Christmas.

I believe that the agreement reflects positive aspects of the Royal Mail / POL Supply Chain and POL Crown Office pay agreements and rewards all grades for their continued hard work and commitment.

Branches are instructed to ensure that the details of this LTB are given the widest possible circulation amongst members working in POL Admin.
