From October 9th, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in partnership with Local Authorities are running a national campaign
to tackle back pain in the workplace. Better Backs will build on the success of last year’s backs campaign and also
extend its scope.
The Better Backs Campaign will include workplace inspections, mass media advertising and events. The campaign
will aim to reduce the incidence of back pain caused or made worse by work, its impact and the number of working days lost
due to back pain.
The focus is on the holistic approach needed to manage back pain, promoting sensible workplace precautions
that reduce the risk of back pain and emphasise the positive benefits of staying active with back pain. At the same time,
employers and employees are encouraged to work together to help people return to normal activities including work.
The HSE is keen to involve the voluntary sector, trades unions and employee’s representatives, trade associations,
professional bodies and businesses in the campaign.
